MADE-IN-CANADA ETHANOL REACHES 1 BILLION LITRE MILESTONE

Integrated Grain Processors Co-operative Aylmer Ethanol Plant Opened

AYLMER, ON:  The Canadian Renewable Fuels Association today congratulated Integrated Grain Processors Co-operative (IGPC) on the official opening of its new 150 million litre ethanol plant.

"Today marks a milestone day in the production of renewable fuels in Canada.  With IGPC's new plant, Canada now produces over a billion liters of ethanol a year," said Gordon Quaiattini, President of the Canadian Renewable Fuels Association.  "The farmers that own IGPC should be proud of this significant accomplishment.  This new plant will help reduce harmful greenhouse gases, grow new jobs in rural Ontario, and help hard-pressed consumers with more choice at the pump.  We are growing beyond oil with renewable fuels made-in-Canada."

The $140 million IGPC ethanol plant in Aylmer, Ontario will also produce approximately 120,000 tonnes of Dried Distillers Grains with Solubles (DDGS).  DDGS are a valuable co-product of ethanol plants used in livestock feed.

Canada is now well on its way toward meeting the federal government's 5% Renewable Fuel Standard with ethanol produced in Canada.

According to Natural Resources Canada's GHGenius lifecycle assessment model, this renewable fuel standard will result in a 4.2 megatonne reduction in harmful greenhouse gas emissions - the equivalent of removing over one million cars and their CO2 emissions from Canadian roads every year.

The Canadian Renewable Fuels Association is a non-profit organization with a mission to promote renewable transportation fuels through consumer awareness and government liaison activities.  CRFA membership is composed of representatives from all levels of the ethanol and biodiesel industry, including:  grain and cellulose ethanol producers, biodiesel producers, fuel technology providers, agricultural associations, and auto makers.
